I have read two works which deal with the art. The first one is Dialectics of Seeing by Hal Foster, and the second one is Some Rotten Shoots from the Seeds of Time by Rosalind Krauss. I find these two works very interesting, well-written, and thorough. The aim of the first work is to understand how three fields of art, such as Art History, Aesthetics, and Visual Studies interact with each other. The author of the work masterfully showed this interaction between three fields by comparing them with trees (with Rembrandt’s etching Three Trees), because trees intertwined in their roots and branches as these three fields do. There is also no dominant tree, and one can make an assumption that these three fields of art share common goals. Some important thoughts were mentioned in this article, such as “art history is born of a crisis” and “the history of art is a humanistic discipline”.
In the second work Rosalind Krauss defends artistic modernism. She presented to readers different great examples of art. This is the project of Rem Koolhaas for the Très Grande Bibliothèque in Paris. He wanted to create the library-of-the-future, and the library had to be like the hard drive of a computer with parallel rows of shelves. Rosalind Krauss also tells readers about Fred Jameson’s belief that there is the aesthetic medium for genres of visual arts. This work also describes the essence of television, architecture’s essence, and contemporary criticism.
Contemporary moment is something which one has to understand and know how to live in it. There are different forms of art which interact with each other and create something very special and valuable. Different artists represent art as they see it.
